Whether your family comes from Harare, Masvingo, Mutare, Chipinge, or the Zambezi Valley, learning how each region greets and names everyday things connects you to the whole Shona-speaking world.

📜 Historical & Linguistic Note: Standard written Shona (ChiShona cheChikoro), codified from the 1931 Clement Doke unification report, draws primarily on ChiZezuru and ChiKaranga phonology with vocabulary from ChiManyika. In 2013, Zimbabwe’s Constitution also recognised Ndau as an official language alongside Shona in honour of its distinct coastal-highland heritage.
